  1. 10⁰1 mark = 1 person

    Moe Babazadeh

CTO at Neuroject, building the alignment layer for construction enterprises. Building since 2007: robots, IoT and firmware, then web, mobile and AI platforms.

Every stop below is a real figure from my career, drawn as exactly that many marks. Zoom out and each order of magnitude turns out to be made of the one before.

  2. 10⁰1 mark = 1 device

    5 devices in production

Five devices in production, from GSM weather stations to a compact PLC. On the field, each mark carries its tag.

      In production

For both Attendum parts, the reader and the beacon, I wrote the firmware.

  3. 10¹1 mark = 1 year · 1 stripe = 1 month

    19 years, 6 roles

From freelance websites in 2007 to CTO at Neuroject. Each mark is a year from August 2007. Its twelve stripes are its months, coloured by the role I held, with a lower band when a second role ran alongside.

    1. Freelance 2007 – 2012

      Web Developer

Websites and web apps for clients in PHP, JavaScript and jQuery.

    2. Niknam Electronic Rayan 2012 – 2020

  4. 10¹1 mark = 1 station

    50+ Logger weather stations

GSM weather stations that take several sensors each and send their logs home. The fleet has been online for over 15 years: more than 50 active stations and over half a billion records.

    50+ stations · 15+ years online · 0.5B+ records

Their records come back at the end of the zoom, at 10⁸.

  5. 10²1 mark = 1 classroomat one university

    100+ classrooms on Attendum

Attendance monitoring, live at universities in the UK and US. The Attendum figures here all come from one of them, where it covers more than 100 classrooms.

I wrote the firmware for the ESP32 card readers and the nRF52840 Bluetooth beacons, and built the iOS and Android app, the staff dashboard and a Canvas LTI app.

    10K+ classes covered

Back at the same university, two powers up from its classrooms: Attendum has covered more than 10,000 classes there.

The marks are now a few pixels wide. Watch the gutters: every gap marks where a block of ten, a hundred or a thousand ends.

  9. 10⁴1 mark = 1 commit

  10. 10⁵1 mark = 1 download a weekcombined, not per package

    300k+ weekly downloads, combined

Fixes I sent upstream, to packages that together are downloaded more than 300k times a week. The figure is the combined total, so the field splits it by package.

    1. gatsbyjs/gatsby ↗

      2022 · Security · 163k a week · ★ 56k

Removed the deprecated uuid@3.4.0 from gatsby-cli and gatsby-plugin-sharp.

That version can fall back to Math.random(), which is unsafe for IDs. npm flagged it on every install.

    2. nanostores/persistent ↗

      2022 · Data loss · 82k a week · ★ 383

  11. 10⁶1 mark = 1 recordfrom one university

3M+ Attendum records in two years

More than 3 million Attendum records received in the past two years, from that one university.

A mark is now smaller than a pixel, so each square on screen is a block of marks and the readout says how many. The count stays exact; only the drawing is aggregated.

drawn: 3,000,000 (the figure is 3M+)

  12. 10⁷ No figure here lands on 10⁷, so the camera passes it rather than invent one. The next is 50 times larger.

  13. 10⁸1 mark = 1 record50+ stations, 15+ years

    0.5B+ sensor records from Logger

Over half a billion records from the Logger fleet, online for over 15 years: GSM weather stations with several sensors each, more than 50 of them active.

That is 8.7 powers of ten from the single mark at the top. All 500,000,000 are counted; on screen they are drawn in blocks.

drawn: 500,000,000 (the figure is 0.5B+)

From 1 to 500,000,000: 8.7 powers of ten.

Career

I started building websites as a freelancer in 2007, studied electrical engineering with a focus on control systems, and spent my university years building robots, including a 1st place at RoboCup IranOpen 2010.

Since then I’ve built for an electronics and IoT company, a grocery marketplace, an edtech company and a construction-tech company. Today I’m CTO at Neuroject, leading the platform that connects BIM, schedules, budgets and risks for construction enterprises, and bringing AI into it.

Along the way I’ve shipped apps to the App Store and Google Play, hardware that’s still logging data after 15 years, and fixes to open source projects like Gatsby and DefinitelyTyped.

  1. June 2024 – Present

    CTO · Neuroject ↗

    • CTO since September 2026, after two years as Chief Full Stack Engineer. I lead the architecture, roadmap, and delivery of a cloud-native, multi-tenant platform that connects BIM, schedules, budgets, and risks into traceable decisions.
    • Bringing AI into the platform, from natural-language access to project data to early warning on schedule and cost risk.
    • Led the architecture and build of NeuroBuild on Next.js, React 19, and Laravel, hosted on AWS Amplify and Laravel Vapor, with 4,700+ commits across five codebases.
    • Set the engineering bar: a permission check on every API route, audit trails, and production alarms and GuardDuty alerts kept in infrastructure as code.

    • Shipped Attendum end to end: firmware for the ESP32 card readers and nRF52840 BLE beacons, the iOS and Android app, the staff dashboard, and a Canvas LTI app.
    • Built Office.js add-ins for PowerPoint and Word, the School.how dashboard, the Education Guide app, and the Learning Kit and Exam Kit websites.
    • Redesigned the CI/CD pipelines to cut build and deployment overhead.
  4. August 2020 – February 2021

    Senior Frontend Developer · Alget.nl

    • Built the React frontend of a digital marketplace that helps local supermarkets and grocery businesses sell online.
    • Implemented state management and client-side data handling that cut unnecessary API requests.
    • Shipped MVP features quickly with the product and backend teams, and improved deployment workflows with CI/CD.
  5. October 2012 – August 2020

    Senior Software Engineer · Niknam

    • At Niknam Electronic Rayan, built IoT platforms and connected systems for monitoring, tracking, and data visualisation across multiple industries.
